My name is Bobbie Garrisi and I am creating this fundraiser for my dearest friend Melissa Smith-Reid. She is like a sister to me and a very loving friend to many.

On January 30, 2023 Melissa went in the hospital for a simple hernia and appendix removal. That's when the doctors discovered the 35 cm tumor in her colon and took it out. She was diagnosed with Stage 2 Colon Cancer and was consistently receiving extensive treatment from March until June which resulted in her having neuropathy (weakness, numbness, and pain from nerve damage) in both hands, legs and feet.

The doctors said they thought they got it all, but unfortunately, tests proved otherwise. 5 months after her treatments, they discovered Melissa has 5 more nodes in the ascending colon and are growing. With the reoccurrence, and it being in the lymph node, it is now Stage 4 colon cancer. Melissa is now to undergo more invasive chemo treatments in which the side effects are even worse than the chemo she had previously.

This year has significantly impacted her entire life!! Not only physically and emotionally but financially as well! Melissa also bears the responsibility for her bills alone, but cannot work. She has a mortgage to pay, taxes, home insurance, car payment, car insurance, utilities, groceries and now costly medical bills. She is currently on long term disability, but it is half the amount of what she was earning. It has drained her entire savings and now she has had to sub-come to using credit cards to get by.

Melissa is a very selfless person and has always helped others when they were in need. Not once has she ever asked for help for herself. It’s time we come together and start helping her!!
