Dear Friends, Family, High School Exes, and Random Facebook Stalkers,

On Wednesday, November 29th, Nick was driving home from dropping off a kiddo at school when he was involved in a serious car accident – first, a head-on collision, then, he was rear-ended. Nick’s injuries are substantial.

A head-on collision is the most dangerous type of crash, and it’s amazing Nick is expected to recover. He will have a long road ahead of him while he recovers from broken bones/ribs, re-routed intestines, and so much swelling and bruising. He will require at least one more surgery within 3-6 months with its own recovery time.

Not that there is ever a “good” time for a major car accident, but this is a particularly challenging time for the Meinens – Brooke has been struggling with her own chronic health issues and has been on long term disability since this summer…leaving them down a chunk of income and a parent functioning at 100%.

There are already unexpected costs- medical equipment insurance doesn’t cover, likely dental work (one chipped tooth already discovered), and items such as hospital gowns for home (waist bands are a no-go because of the seat belt bruising/lacerations). There is also additional gas and food costs from going back and forth to the hospital.

While deciding to set up a Go Fund Me was a difficult decision for Nick and Brooke, many of you have asked how you can help and this seems to be the easiest way…especially since many of you are from afar. This site will also detail some specific “doing” needs (shuttling the three busy kids in the house to activities, helping with some household “fix it” things, etc.) that we would greatly appreciate help with.
