!! Please, Donate to Help our Dear Ms. Deborah Fight Ovarian Cancer !!

Recently, the Conservatory of Classical Ballet community received shocking news–our teacher, friend, and colleague of 22 years, Deborah Hurley, was diagnosed with advanced-stage ovarian cancer.

After teaching an evening Teen/Adult ballet class, she took herself to the Hospital Emergency Department with increasing heaviness in her chest, and difficulty breathing. Over a liter and a half of fluid was removed from around one of her lungs and she was admitted to the hospital for further care and testing. Unfortunately, in the following days, while Ms. Deborah remained in the hospital, she was diagnosed with advanced-stage ovarian cancer. Fluid buildup in one or both lungs is a common symptom of ovarian cancer, and over the nine days she was at the hospital, Deborah had three painful fluid extraction treatments, removing nearly 7 pounds in total. She was prescribed accelerated chemotherapy treatments, bravely enduring the first 6-hour round, just one week after she was admitted to the hospital! Her ongoing treatments require around-the-clock abdominal pain management, regular intervals of chemotherapy, and fluid removal treatments as needed.

Aside from sharing her love of ballet with our students on the weekends, Deborah’s main source of income comes from being a self-employed Regulatory Affairs Consultant. Because of the advanced stage of the cancer and the aggressive chemotherapy treatments needed to fight it, Deborah CANNOT work, and WILL NOT be able to work, for months until she has recovered sufficiently. Unfortunately, not being able to work directly affects her health insurance.

Deborah is also a proud mother, and the primary financial support, of her 21-year-old daughter, Olivia. Olivia was a student at Conservatory of Classical Ballet for over a decade, and after graduating from the Pre-Professional Division of Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, was accepted last fall to a Professional Trainee Program with a ballet company in New York City.

Ms. Deborah is determined to fight for her life, and it is an extremely costly endeavor!

No matter the size – your donations will make an impact on the costs of medicine, food, mounting medical bills, and living expenses for Deborah and her daughter Olivia.
Please, help us support Deborah in her fight against ovarian cancer by donating as generously as is comfortable, and sharing the link with as many people and platforms as you see fit.
