My name is Juan Benitez, I am a Colombian pro tennis player who recently graduated from Baylor University.
I began playing tennis when I was 4, my family used to live near tennis courts (Liga Antioqueña de Tenis.) My parents were very athletic, and they decided to give tennis a try. At the time, my older brother and I were becoming of age to start in the kids program—the minimum age was 5, so as my older brother started I was outside grabbing the fence desperate to get in the court and play. The coach told my parents that I could join, but he said “you’ll see he’ll lose interest soon enough.” Little did he know, 22 years later I still have the same fire and passion for this sport that pushes me to keep striving to reach my goal which is to become a top 100 player.
During my time at Baylor, I only played one full season where I reached the top 5 in the singles ITA NCAA D1 rankings. I was in and out of college for different reasons related to my eligibility and financial struggles. Now that I finally completed my college education at Baylor University I will dedicate myself fully to my professional tennis career. To reach my full potential, I need the financial means to afford a full season playing tournaments where the main expenses are hotels and flights. With your help, I am certain I will reach my goals. I have already played 2 half seasons in which both times I played 15 professional tournaments, and I reached the top 600ATP. With a full season playing between 30 to 35 tournaments in a year the sky is the limit. Thank you all for your help, I will be posting my career updates to keep you guys up to date.
