Retired Firefighter Phil Bailey Funeral Fund
Donation protected
Phillip Bailey was a firefighter/paramedic for 30 years and is in the fight of his life. His health has declined over the last few years, but over the previous month, he’s been lying in a hospital bed, struggling to stay alive. The most recent health issue started on October 18. He became increasingly weak and ended up in the hospital for sepsis. He had a severe infection on his right foot, and the doctor recommended that his right foot be amputated. The doctor tried to save his foot, but on October 28, the infection took over with a vengeance, and they had to perform a below-the-knee amputation. He fought to get better with his loving wife, Robin, by his side. Unfortunately, he and Robin were diagnosed with COVID, and for a week, he couldn’t have family by his side to be with him. As he was fighting through COVID and the infection, sepsis was winning the battle, and gangrene took hold of the amputated leg.
As I write this (November 15), my father is lying in a hospital bed, sicker than ever. The doctor had to remove the rest of his leg up to the mid-thigh. He’s not coherent and very confused. We are incredibly blessed that he made it through the surgery today, but he is not out of the woods yet. The doctor and family are optimistic he will make it through this.
My father is used to helping others. He is a retired firefighter/paramedic from Largo Fire Rescue in Pinellas County, Florida. During his career, he was dedicated to educating others on how to save lives. He taught at St. Petersburg College Fire Academy, and after he retired, he taught at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
100% of this GoFundMe campaign will go to Phillip and Robin to help get Phil back to full strength over the next few months. The financial help will help take the burden off the family. It will help us prepare the house for his return and purchase the necessary medical equipment he will need daily.
Anything you can give helps, and the Bailey family appreciates the support and love they have been given and continue to receive.
UPDATE: 11/24/22
We regret to inform you that my father lost his battle this afternoon. All funds received will go to his funeral fund and any outstanding medical expenses.
