Donate to help Rylan "Jax" Simmons and family

Hi, my name is Lisa Simmons and I am fundraising for my little boy, Rylan "Jax" Simmons. Jax is 10 years old and unfortunately has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. This was completely unexpected. It was a typical morning, boys off to school and I was at work, when I received a call to come to Jax's school immediately. He had collapsed and was slurring his speech. By the time I arrived, the school had called 911 and the ambulance was already there. They took Jax and I to ER at Renown here in Reno and took what we thought was just a precautionary MRI. Then everything changed when the doctor came in and said "I'm sorry momma, but your son has a brain tumor and we are putting you and Jax on a plane right now to Benioff Children's Hospital in Oakland." We arrived and was admitted to PICU (pediatric intensive care unit) where they performed a biopsy and determined his tumor was in his brain behind his eyes and because of the location cannot be removed. Jax will have this tumor for the rest of his life. They placed a shunt in his brain with a tube that travels from brain to belly to drain the constant fluid that builds up due to the tumor. He will also have this shunt forever. He has also had a port placed in his chest so he can receive chemotherapy treatment. Jax currently is undergoing chemo every other week. The tumor has not grown (which is excellent news). However, his symptoms caused by the tumor are getting worse. He has more severe and frequent headaches, nausea, tingling and numbness in his feet which cause him to loose balance and fall, as well as slight color blindness and loss of peripheral vision in his left eye. Jax has a team of doctors ( neurologist, oncologist, endocrinologist, opthamologist...) both here in Reno and Oakland. They discussed Jax's condition at the tumor board and decided that we need to change treatment. He will now start a new chemo drug that he will have to receive every day. Jax is staying positive and strong. He is such a courageous, kind, determined and loving boy, son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. I appreciate everyone's love and support and ask that you please keep Jax in your prayers. If anyone is able, or knows of anyone who is able to donate to Jax's fundraiser, Jax and the family would appreciate it, and it would help with caring for Jax and his medical needs. I am currently on medical leave to care for Jax and homeschool the boys, and any help would be greatly appreciated and help through this difficult time.
