Donate to help Sean stay out of medical debt

Sean has such an incredible network of friends and colleagues who appreciate his work as a preacher, educator, and racial justice leader, but you may not know that Sean has recently become his mother’s full time caretaker.

In March she nearly passed away from complications due to unregulated diabetes. She suffered a stroke and many seizures, and received a dementia diagnosis.

Sean brought her to Austin in the hopes that he could help her get stable and then return to Houston. But it has become clear that that is not an option and a nursing home is not financially feasible. So now Sean is a full time caretaker to his mom, working full time, and pursuing his PhD without any outside support. This is clearly not sustainable for Sean physically, emotionally, or financially.

Not only has Sean taken on caring for his mother physically, but he has taken on added

financially responsibilities due to his mother’s small fixed income.

Sean has only just begun to financially stabilize after years of being underfunded on InterVarsity staff.

The goal of this gofundme is to help cover some medical expenses. But more importantly hire some in home care so that Sean can have some breaks from caretaking and have someone to look after his mom when he travels.

Sean has made the incredible decision to care for his mother, but it would be a tragedy if that put him into debt, or he had no support. Caretaker burnout is very real.
