Hi, my name is Violet Sloan. I am teaming up with the Pastoralist Child Foundation to raise money to sponsor Christine Lenkaaka to go to school. The Pastoralist Child Foundation is an organization that sponsors young girls and boys in Kenya to go to school. School protects the children from child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM).

Some information about Christine includes; she was born May 7th, 2007 in Ngilai Village, Samburu County, Kenya. She comes from a very humble background with nine siblings. She has five brothers and four sisters. Two of her brothers and three of her sisters attend school. Christine is in grade 8 and is determined and focused to pass her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and join a national secondary school in January, 2024. She dreams of becoming a doctor. To help make her dream a reality please donate what you can. The cost to send Christine to school, and my fundraising goal is $6,000.

More information about PCF:

About PCF: PCF was founded in 2012 by Sayydah Garrett (Glen Ridge, NJ) and Samuel Siriria Leadismo (Samburu, Kenya) during Sayydah’s solo safari to Kenya. Community workshops and dialogues cover sexual & reproductive health and rights, female genital mutilation (FGM), forced early marriage, teen pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, self-awareness, self-confidence, gender equality, child rights, women’s economic empowerment, and the importance of girls’ education.

Mission: The Pastoralist Child Foundation (PCF) works at the grassroots level in Samburu and Maasai Mara, Kenya to end harmful practices that prevent girls and women from reaching their maximum potential. They empower communities to recognize and value what girls and women contribute to society as a whole, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – the universal call to action to create a more fair, just, and equitable world ensuring no one is left behind. PCF provides full scholarships for students to attend secondary boarding schools and universities.

Impact: As a result of PCF’s advocacy, school visits, youth sports tournaments, and radio time the rate of FGM has decreased by 35% in Samburu East Sub-county. Girls and women are now empowered to speak up, raise awareness, and advocate against practices that negatively affect their health and well-being. As of June, 2023 there are 65 scholarship recipients. Four (4) registered women’s self-help groups are thriving as a result of PCF’s women’s economic empowerment workshops. Two (2) groups in Samburu own and operate a jewelry store and two (2) groups in Maasai Mara own a bulls & lambs fattening business and a sewing school with an adjacent store that sells beautiful clothes and accessories.
