Donate to help support Alfie's miraculous recovery!

At 5am on Christmas morning, our family cat Alfie came into the house with his tibia bone inexplicably poking out of his back right leg. After rushing him to the Emergency Vet, the verdict was in - they were going to have to amputate.

Back at home and just as the shock had settled, we received a call from the vet that the surgery was complete. She described the procedure as "barbaric" as she discovered he also had a dislocated hip and a lot of trauma to the muscles and tendons which they needed to reconstruct.

Restless in our beds on Boxing Day morning, the house was woken up at 3am with a call from the vet. Alfie was bleeding out, they didn't know where from, and he needed an urgent blood transfusion. The REAL issue was that the only available cat blood was in Ryde - a 2 hour drive from our Newcastle family home.

After deciding that he wouldn't survive the drive and it would be an awful way for his life to end, we asked the vet to try any other methods they could think of to keep him alive. They tried a blood clotting medication which he initially responded to well before his blood count began to drastically drop again.

Acting in pure desperation to keep our little Alf alive, we struck upon a mad idea. As it was Christmas time, everyone's respective pets were home for the holiday season. This included Molly's cat from Sydney, Saffy, who could be a potential blood donor for Alfie.

At 9pm on Boxing Day we took Saffy the cat to the Emergency Vet to run some tests to see if she was a match and a potential donor. Luckily, she was a match! That night Saffy, now known as 'The Little Hero', donated blood to Alfie to save his life.

At first the transfusion didn't seem to make much difference but after a full 24 hours Alf was making a GREAT recovery. He's now at home, learning to live his new life, 3 legs and all.

If you are able to donate to help support Alfie's family in paying for his recovery and Emergency Vet bills, we would be forever grateful! Thank you!
