Donate to help Taria intern abroad

Hello, family, friends, or readers whom I haven't had the pleasure of meeting, my name is Taria Burch, and I am fundraising to sponsor my internship abroad for the summer of 2024.

I am a 20-year-old, second year Doctor of Pharmacy Candidate attending Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. I'm a graduate of Eustis High School as well as a graduate of Lake Sumter State College, earning an Associate of Arts Degree prior to graduating high school.

I have been a member of The Incomparable Marching 100 Band, for three years running, in which I am a trombonist. As I approach my final year in the band and final few years of pharmacy school, I constantly discover that I can accomplish anything if I put my mind to a task and its purpose. As I’m drawn closer to accomplishing many of my goals never previously imagined, I've taken the stance of assessing those goals for impact as well as forming new and challenging ones towards my continuing education.

About the internship opportunity:

I was recently accepted into the "Atlantis" study abroad medical internship program with an opportunity for enhanced study in Pavia, Italy in June 2024. I am truly ecstatic about this opportunity because I realize only a top percentage of students are selected for this internship as well as the chance to represent my university. In this internship program, I will be shadowing medical doctors in their respective departments which align with my current career field of interest and includes OB/GYN, Dermatology, Oncology, Emergency, and Ophthalmology. The program encompasses service projects, networking events, and a Harvard Medical certification course for healthcare majors of many different backgrounds. As a pharmacy student, this program allows me the opportunity to gain hands-on medicinal observation hours in the clinical field and experience in a non-native cultural environment.

As a participant in this internship program, all the experiences and living accommodations included have a represented cost which brings me here today. The cost of this opportunity is approximately $5,699.00, as well as air travel. In efforts to reduce costs and overall donations, I am also applying for potential scholarships in adjunct to this GoFundMe’s donation request. I am aware that for many of you this request comes on the heels of celebrating the holiday season in which you may not be able to donate, so I thank you in advance for your support. This study abroad internship will expectantly be after my clinical rotation in the United States, which I believe will be a very informative experience. It is my belief that I will be able to use the knowledge gained to complete a comparative analysis of healthcare operations to that of a different country. Before earning my Doctorate, I not only want to take full advantage of the educational opportunities I have as a student, but I’d also love to share my experiences with others. I hope to share the knowledge from this experience with my pharmacy peers and additionally motivate other students who have a desire to broaden their horizons with an understanding that academics should never be limited to one's own environment. Life is what you make it, so we should live out its maximum potential.
