An early Christmas miracle has come to Doggy Heaven which will enable me to build the Dog Mother Dog Psychology and Education Centre. ALL the dogs will be coming with me and I will have room to save some more.
I am very happy and excited to announce that I have secured funding for a 36'x50' building and I signed a lease for a 5 acre property in Courtenay yesterday. The lease is effective January 1st. The building material is expected to arrive by December 15th. It was hoped the building would be ready for January 1st but in my excitement I forgot about Christmas holidays, so the opening date will be around January 15th.
As you walk in the front door of the building you will enter a small waiting area. To the left will be the office and to the right will be a washroom that includes a stand in shower for clients to use to hose off their dogs if needed. As you go through the next door you will enter the large open play and teaching area. On the other side of the wall to the right are the kennels. On the left there will be a full service grooming salon that will specialize in dogs who are reactive or aggressive at the groomer where your dog will learn that grooming is a relaxing spa day with copious amounts of affection. Next to the grooming salon is a hallway that leads outside to the 30'x50' all season play and teaching area that will be heated in the winter. As you pass the hallway there will be a large 10'x22' multipurpise room that can be used as a second indoor play and teaching area or to house overflow dogs. At the end of the main play area is a door that leads to a large outdoor 50'x50' pen for play and teaching. This area will be open at first but in a year I hope to build a roof to create second all season outdoor play and teaching area. On the right exterior of the building will be all the covered runs for the kennels and all the runs will have direct access to a 30'x50' open, fenced in play area. All the fences around the building will be 7 feet high. The side fences of the large outdoor play and teaching area on the left of the building will be secured to the roof and it will be completely impossible for a dog to escape from this area as the only access is through the building or through the future home.
Attached to the front of the building will be a 36'x30' compound with 8 foot fences. There will be a vehicle gate and a human gate at the front. When all dogs arrive for rehabilitation, their owner will park their vehicle inside this compound so we can safely get their dog inside the building to begin rehabilitation. I work with the most serious cases of psychological unbalance. This area will be open at first but a roof will be installed as soon as funds are available to do so. This completely secure and escape proof reception compound will ensure no fearful dogs are able to escape. This area will be named in memory of Mist, a dog who escaped the property I currently reside at 5 years ago and was hit and killed by a car. Mist was the only dog to ever be killed in my care and I will make sure that never happens at this new facility.
The outdoor areas will include a large scent tracking area with little shacks for clients to hide in, three dog parks, large breed, small breed and puppy, a large agility course, and a huge fenced and secure area where clients can run their dogs off leash. Water will be available in all areas and I hope within 2 years all of the dog parks will be covered with a roof. The most exciting area for me to offer is the Walking Path. This is a long and wide fully fenced area where clients who are working with their leash reactive dog can go to walk their dog past other dogs who are also reactive on leash. Everyone helps each other to teach their dogs to be calm and relaxed on leash and to ignore and not be concerned about other dogs and people. Only those who own a dog who is reactive on leash understand what it is like to own a dog who is reactive on leash. Many dog owners in public tend to stay away from you instead of understanding that their presence is helping you to teach your dog to not be reactive on leash. Many leash reactive dog owners are shunned or feel embarrassed walking their dog in public. My centre and this Walking Path welcome you and your leash reactive dog with open arms so you have a place where you feel safe and those around you understand you and your dog and will help you instead of shunning you. Once you and your dog have found peace and balance on your leash walks, you can then walk your dog in public with your head held high and with confidence and pride in your dog. Our community of dominant dog owners will help you get there.
Clients will purchase a monthly pass to gain access to all the outdoor areas. Fees and schedules will be published on my new website which will be operational by January 1st.
I will still be conducting in home consultations to teach people how to communicate with and give affection to their dogs properly for certain cases, but most people will now be able to come to the new facility for the consultation. This will allow me to help more people with their dogs and cut down on wait time to see me. I will continue to offer rehabilitation services for those dogs who need a pack to help them learn the joy and inner peace that comes with a calm and relaxed mind. I will also continue to offer overnight boarding for existing clients, but these spots will be limited until I build a second building hopefully in the second year.
One service I have wanted to offer for a long time is Daycare. I am thrilled to announce we will be offering daycare for existing clients whose dog is not accepted at all other daycare facilities because of their dog's breed or behaviour and for those dedicated clients who will not allow anyone else but me look after their dog. I love you all and your dogs. As always, I take the dogs no one else wants. All dogs entering daycare who have not already stayed with my pack and I for rehabilitation or board will have to be assessed by me prior to being accepted for daycare. The assessment fee is $100. If your dog passes the assessment, they will be accepted into daycare. If your dog fails the assessment, then your dog will need to enrole in rehabilitation where they learn how to socialize properly, play properly and to be respectful. Once your dog passes rehabilitation they will be allowed to attend daycare. This is to ensure the staff who operate the daycare and all the dogs are safe. The daycare fee is $50 for a full day and $30 for a half day. There will be 10 spots available at first and I hope to increase this number to 20 within 6 months. At first, daycare will only be available from Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, but this will be expanded to include evenings up to 9pm and weekends as soon as possible. I am already creating a waiting list for daycare, so please contact me by email as soon as possible if you are interested in placing your dog in daycare as these spots will fill up fast. Please send your request to [email redacted].
Finally, I saved the best news for last. For the first time, I will be offering puppy classes for dominant puppies between the ages of 3 months and 6 months. If you are having behavioural issues with your puppy and they don't accept treats, we can help you because we don't reward dogs and puppies with treats, we thank them with acceptance and affection like their Dog Mother did. Owners will learn about dog psychology, dog behaviour and Canine Communication. They will learn how to communicate with, teach, discipline and give affection to their puppy the exact same way their puppy's Mother did, they way they instinctively understand. By taking these classes with your puppy, you will avert all the behavioural issues people have with their puppies after 6 months of age and they enter puberty. So many people say they had the perfect puppy until it hit 6 months old. There is a reason for that. It is not about correcting unwanted and aggressive behaviour when it happens, it is about not having these behaviours happen in the first place. Teach them young and you will have far fewer problems when they are older.
If you are an up and coming Dog Behaviourist looking for an opportunity to get hands on learning and experience in this field working with actual reactive and aggressive dogs, look no further. I will be hiring one staff member to operate and manage the daycare. I will also be hiring as staff a Dog Behaviourist student who will operate the puppy classes. I will be hiring one or two Professional Dog Trainers on contract to operate the scent tracking and agility services. These individuals will pay a monthly rent to use these areas. If you are interested in applying for the daycare position, the puppy class position, operating a scent tracking and/or agility business, volunteering to walk and play with dogs, or to be a student to gain the knowledge and experience needed to help reactive and aggressive dogs, send me an email to [email redacted].
I have secured enough funding for the building but require an additional $50,000 to build all the outdoor areas. Please visit my GoFundMe campaign and donate what you can to help with this cause. You will be part of creating Vancouver Island's first and only full service dog psychology and education centre that specializes in bringing dominant reactive, aggressive or fearful dogs back to balance.
My dream has come true. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all those people whose dogs I helped and who have supported me over the last 7 years. The bcspca, their 'humane' trainers and behaviourists and their haters have done everything they could think of to destroy me, my reputation and my business, but they failed miserably all because of you, my loving and devoted supporters whose dogs I saved from them. Truth, peace, love and understanding have prevailed. Thank you. ❤️
Cheers,
Ken
