Donate to Help the Family of Tom Scaramuzzo

Donation protected
On Monday morning, May 23, my father, Tom Scaramuzzo suffered a serious stroke. He was brought to Danbury hospital where he remained unconscious. He developed a fever, and eventually his brain began to swell and there was nothing left to be done. On Tuesday, May 24, we spent the day talking to him, touching him, holding him, and did so even after he had gone.

My father was a good man, and to everyone who knew him, they called him friend, brother, boating buddy, etc., but to us, he was and will always be, our hero, and champion.

He would be the first to drop everything to come to our aid whenever we would need it. If we had a car issue, he'd tell us, come down to the house, I'll take a look. If we couldn't figure out what was going on with the dishwasher, he'd say, explain it to me, we can take a look and we'll get it fixed.

He showed me how to use power tools, to build a room from scratch. He taught us to be calm and collected, to let things roll off your back. He held our hands and comforted us when we needed it, and more often reminded us to remember to breathe when it was too hard to do so.

I'm trying to remember to breathe right now.

To everyone who knew him, you've asked what you can do - what can anyone do during a time like this? My father is 66 years old and he deserved so much more.

He made friends wherever he went, he was a partner to my mother for 41 years, he was protector and teacher to my sister and me, a father-in-law who cared for the two men that were not his own, but made them feel as though they were, and he took joy in being 'Poppy' to his grandchildren and looked forward to seeing them grow up.

So what can we do? Over the years, my father would do anything for all of you if you asked and so many of you have shared stories with us in the last few days of the times when he did just that. Which is why we now respectfully ask all of you to help us during this life shattering time. We need you all to help us honor his life because he deserved so much more.

We are asking for friends, family, boating buddies, work friends, anyone who knew my father to help by donating what you can so that we may honor him in the way that he deserves.

Thank you all for your continued thoughts and we ask you to continue to keep my father in your prayers. We know he will always be with us, but we hope that all of you, who he thought of so fondly, will help to live out his legacy to lend a hand when someone needs it. To pay it forward, and help to watch after his family.

To say we are devastated is an understatement, we are destroyed. Please help us to honor him, and continue his legacy. Thank you.
