Donate to help the Gantt family

Hi, my name is Joani, and I have known the Gantt family for over 20 years. Emily is one of my closest friends and what I have always admired about her is that no matter what is going on in her own life, she always has time for those in need, and gives without question. The whole family has that kind of unconditional care for those in need, and sadly, they are now the ones in need. I have started this GoFundMe to help the Gantt family with Marshall’s extensive medical costs.

On April 23rd Marshall was hit by a car as a pedestrian in Bloomington, near the IU campus where he was a senior. He had injuries to his lungs and liver, but most severe was the injury to his brain. The hospital in Bloomington did quick surgery to repair his lungs and liver so that he could be airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indy for brain surgery.

The first week at Methodist was very critical for Marshall, and Emily, Randy and Maddie were constantly by his side, as well as many loving family members and friends. Marsh was surrounded by love and support, and against many odds, he survived! It has been a long journey from there, with a stay at Methodist Neuro ICU while in a coma, then a lengthy time at Seton Acute Care Hospital at St. Vincent. Marshall is no longer in a coma, he is in a phase of his recovery termed “disorders of consciousness”, which basically means, while not in a coma, he is not yet completely conscious. He is currently at one of the top programs in the country for his condition, Shirley Ryan in Chicago. The problem is that insurance denied coverage for this program, so Emily and Randy decided to private pay because they knew how important it was for Marshall’s recovery to be at Shirley Ryan. He has been there just over 2 weeks and has made amazing progress! It was the right decision!

The Gantt family is on a marathon with Marshall’s recovery, and it will be a long one! But, they will do everything they can to get Marsh the care that he needs to achieve the highest level of recovery that is possible for him. Who wouldn’t do anything they could for their child?
Let’s help this loving family with their out of pocket medical costs as they continue to care for Marshall, and seek the medical care that is best for him.
Please donate what you are comfortable with, and know that the Gantt family is beyond grateful for the love, support, prayers, and friendship that has held them up through this difficult journey.
