The Ukrainian National Federation (UNF) Regina Branch has been home to generations of families, and the focus on building a robust Ukrainian community and promoting and maintaining Ukrainian culture has remained steady since UNF Regina was formally established in the early 1930s.

Celebrating the Ukrainian community and culture at a hall located at 1737 St. John Street has been central to the Regina branch. Though the organization initially sold the hall in 1935, members rescued the building from repossession in 1949 through tireless efforts and financial contributions.

Since then, the hall has served as a central meeting place for the public and Ukrainian community. The hardwood floors—on par with the Treanon Ballroom and the downtown Legion—have seen hundreds of dances, socials, weddings, and banquets. The hall has hosted public theatre and movie showings and is still home to the Chaban Ukrainian Dance School, Ridna Shkola (a Ukrainian language and culture school for children ages 5 to 14), and various UNF Regina social and cultural events. The hall’s ties to community run deep; until the 1970s had a backstairs apartment for new Ukrainian immigrants and their families.

Many hardworking and dedicated community members have kept the hall running over the decades but, like many cultural centres in Regina, the UNF hall is showing its age. The UNF Regina Board has identified several critical improvements to the building: new rain gutters and windows, fixes to the roof to reduce possible water damage, and insulation to improve energy efficiency. The interior and exterior also need some touch-ups and maintenance to make it a comfortable and pleasant place to be.

The funds it will take to address these critical improvements goes far beyond our regular budget. The Board has set a goal of fundraising $80,000 to ensure the UNF can continue to play a pivotal role in supporting new Ukrainians and promoting Ukrainian culture through its programs and events.

Here’s the good news: You can help! Your financial contribution will help the UNF ensure the hall will remain a place our community can call home for many years to come. We are extremely grateful to the member who donated $10,000 to kickstart this campaign.

The Board greatly appreciates any amount you can afford towards this campaign—those smaller donations pooled together can make a big difference.

Contributing is easy. You can use your credit card to donate directly from this Go Fund me page, or mail a cheque to UNF Regina 1737 St. John Street, Regina, SK S4P 1R8.

As the UNF Regina Branch is not a registered charitable organization, contributions are not eligible for a tax receipt.

If you have any questions, you can contact the UNF Board at [email redacted].

Thank you for helping UNF Regina ensure our city maintains a vibrant and welcoming community for families of Ukrainian heritage.
