MY INTRODUCTION

Hi, My name is Leila and I am setting up this GoFundMe for my dear friend Veronica Pelaez. Veronica and I have shared our health journeys together for the past 12 years, and have shared laughter, tears, connection to spirit, love, song and dance. It is for this reason I am taking this final step in being there for her when she is needing help the most. Like many of us, Veronica is a giver, and has great difficulty asking for help for herself. And so I ask on her behalf.

VERONICA'S STORY

Veronica has Advanced Stage Four C***** (she does not like the word and so to respect her wishes I will not spell it out, knowing you all are familiar with and perhaps also have a loved one who has suffered through or passed on from this very feared and deadly dis-ease). She has told very few people of her suffering. She has been on medical leave from work while the condition has gotten progressively worse. Veronica has always had a strong work ethic, and only until recently has held at least two jobs at a time, since she was a teenager. She has a very giving, loving and supportive heart to her family and friends. She has a huge love for animals and has rescued many abandoned dogs and cats even though highly allergic and asthmatic, and has always given her love and support freely.

Veronica has gone to oncologists, surgeons, therapists, alternative practitioners, and a huge variety of treatments, and has bravely fought to keep going. From the time of her initial diagnosis she always intended to get completely healthy and well, and go back to work. I know this is still Veronica’s intention. Although, as a responsible response to her current health situation, she moves ahead in “getting her affairs in order” on days when she is suffering less and is able to concentrate long enough to accomplish tasks. She’s posted some photos on social media of the good times this past summer and now fall, on days where she was able to enjoy a good day. As these good days come less & less often Veronica feels preparing for her possible transition is wise for her and those who love her. Currently she has painful multiple tumors that are disfiguring and protruding from her body. Most will be very surprised to know the extent of the pain and suffering she is going through because Veronica has kept a smile on her face and continued to outpour love to all, despite her situation. Veronica's spiritual connection is strong and she is a beautiful soul.

FULL DISCLOSURE: Veronica has always managed finances responsibly, and is very careful with spending. This request for assistance comes after emptying out the savings account, cashing out 401K, and after a bad investment introduced by a good friend, which turned out to be a scam-- that lost her entire life savings and any remaining retirement monies.

I am asking for any financial assistance you can find in your heart to donate for Veronica's care. The system requires a number as a goal, so one has been posted as an estimate. Veronica has been on medical leave from work since March 2023.The astonishing cost of medical care would drain anyone's finances. It would be a blessing, and healing for her to have one less worry in the midst of all that must be managed in a terrible crisis such as this one. Your blessings for her will go towards accumulated medical bills, medical equipment, nutrition supplementation, continued treatments/new treatments, pain management, at-home assistance if affordable, and funeral expenses which are expensive as well. Veronica would love to see her sisters who have not come to see her due to finances. Veronica has the loving support of her longtime partner Richard, who is an amputee and limited in his ability to assist financially.

Veronica has agreed to my helping through this funding project, but was reluctant as she does not want to place the burden of worry or sorrow on anyone. She asks that instead, in your hearts you see her as healed and whole and that this suffering has stopped. Veronica knows that every breath is a gift and she has been grateful for every breath. She is not giving up!
