VIV THOMAS, needs your help to fund his major surgery to reconstruct his jaw.

MEDICAL INSURANCE: His insurance has deemed the problem is pre-existing because it is a knock on from the cancer treatment, and they have decided not to cover any of the €55000.00 for the operation and hospital. They will also not cover the follow up treatments to regenerate gum growth, which is extra and ongoing for many, many months after, with several trips to visit the dental surgeons in Porto, to rehabilitate his mouth. Costing in the region of €20000.00.

EMBEZELMENT: Also contributing to our stress, as many of you might already know is that we were defrauded of our savings by our lawyer/friend, a few years back and although he was caught and convicted we have seen no return of our money or costs.

LOAN: We have managed to get a loan for the hospital and surgery bill which needs to be paid back with interest when we sell our home. Our home is on the market at the moment.

THE REASON: Many years ago while undergoing treatment for cancer in his throat, the radiotherapy treatment cured the cancer but has continued to work in the area where it was administered. This has causing Necrotic bone (the decay of the bone). The bone has turned to paper mache. Without this surgery he faces a collapse of his face plus serious consequences and continued infections.

THE SURGERY: This entails removing what remains of the left side of his jaw completely. A bone is then taken from his lower leg and reconstructed to replace the jaw.

The procedure entails 4 neurosurgeons, 2 on his jaw and 2 on his leg and a dental surgeon. All working at the same time for 12 hours, more or less.

He will be in ICU for 3 days closely monitored and in hospital for a maximum of 20 days.

Post surgery will be numerous visits for check-ups and grafts of the gum, from the roof of his mouth onto the bone to enable replacement of the teeth. Approximately 8 months of treatment.

VIV THOMAS: He has walked many roads during his interesting life. From a mechanic, salesman, car dealer, photographer, recently a writer of his own cook books and creator of the well know brand "Chilli Boy" Spicy Condiments. He loves the game of golf and he is an ardent rugby supporter.

For over more than a decade he has been fundamental in organising charity events, raising well over €100 000 to support oncology, families in need, paraplegic support, plus others.
