Meet my sweet sister-in-law Wendy Rogers, a 52-year-old Director of Grants and Contracts at UW, who is not only a dedicated professional but also an adventurous soul. Wendy's heart soars when she's bouldering, backpacking, hiking, gardening, or playing with her beloved 2-year-old puppy, Kona. She has been married for 18 years to my brother Jake, building a life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams.
However, Wendy's life took an unexpected turn on June 20th when she visited urgent care with what seemed like a pulled muscle. Little did she know that it was the beginning of a profound journey. Despite the initial diagnosis of a pinched nerve and an "unusual" chest x-ray on July 23rd, her health continued to decline. Difficulty swallowing led her back to urgent care, where she received devastating news.
Wendy was diagnosed with a compression fracture in her upper thoracic spine, along with lesions on her spine and nodules in her lungs and iliac crest. A pathologic evaluation confirmed it to be a Metastatic adenocarcinoma.
Throughout this daunting diagnosis, Wendy has remained resolute. Like her passion for bouldering, she is determined to climb above cancer's challenges and emerge stronger than ever. But, she needs our help.
The goal is to raise $50,000 to support Wendy during her minimum 9-month healing journey, which could potentially extend depending on treatments. The funds will be utilized for lost wages due to Wendy's inability to work, along with medical bills incurred during her hospitalization and ongoing care. Wendy's condition demands constant support, as she navigates restrictions such as a high fall risk, limited bending, dressing, and bathing assistance, reliance on a walker and body brace, and avoidance of twisting or lifting more than 5lbs. Jake has taken lots of time off work to care for and support her during this trying time.
Let's come together to uplift Wendy in her battle against cancer. Every contribution will make a significant impact, allowing her to focus on healing and recovery. Wendy's determination and adventurous spirit inspire us to believe that together, we can make a difference in the lives of others
