When I was 37 weeks pregnant, I went to the doctor for a routine prenatal examination. During the ultrasound, the doctor said that the amniotic fluids were low, and therefore we will induce labor. After 2 days of medical intervention to induce labor (balloon, pitocin, etc.), I was only 4 centimeters dilated. The baby was in distress, and so I delivered a healthy baby boy by caesarean section at 9am. Everything seemed fine and the numbness in my legs was wearing off slowly. Suddenly, on Friday morning, I lost control and feeling in my legs and collapsed back in bed but the Dr’s weren’t sure why this happened. Eventually, with great help from local askanim, I was transferred to Cornell Medical Center in NYC. They didn’t admit our newborn, so when I was admitted, he went to my sister-in-law, where she took care of him for the week. While in the hospital, all tests – from x-rays to spinal taps – were done, but I was not diagnosed, and they didn’t find the source of the numbness and pain. After a week, I was discharged and our newborn had his bris on time, BH healthy and went well.
Unfortunately, I continue to be in a wheelchair. Any movement of my legs causes pain, as well as general weakness in my body. I am unable to breastfeed or hold my baby for more than a few minutes without pain. My husband is working 10 hours overnight shifts and during the day, cares for the baby and brings us to doctor appointments and also needs to sleep. Due to that we needed to bring in nanny, I'm paying out of pocket, and we are paying for every week until I feel better enough to take care of my newborn baby.
I'm going to physical therapy 4 times a week, and I'm paying from our packet for 2 treatment, we appeal to you and to the community at large for any help that we can get and are very grateful for everything we receive.
