Hello, this fundraiser is to help support my precios nieces funeral costs as well as any medical bills that are still owed now that she is gone.
Lily was only 19 with her birthday in a couple weeks. My sweet Lily May..
Lil was so strong… and stubborn… and courageous. Not to mention so intelligent! She didn’t deserve these last two years that were given to her. She lit up a room anytime she entered it and always knew how to make everybody laugh.
For those of you who don’t know.. my beautiful niece had gastric bypass surgery in 2023. The surgery failed because of the surgeon negligently making her stomach too small (smaller than a 3 yrs stomach) and then when her gallbladder was removed they cut open her liver not suturing it up and she became septic. From there she lost all potassium in her body and without that you have major cardiac arrest episodes. The university of Denver hospital thought she was over exaggerating while the tests show multiple arrests but they couldn’t figure out why. Months go by and do to poor cleaning in the hospital and techs not being cleanly, Lily got even more sick and her blood oxygen dropped. They couldn’t figure out why so they kept saying it was because she was taking her lines out (someone was with Lily at all times this is not true). One of the nurses that put the line in damaged the vein and Lily gota blood clot the size of a dime in her arm. They were worried this was going to lead to a PE. They had her on blood thinners to break the blood clot. While this did break up the massive blood clot it lead to smaller ones which did eventually cause a PE and Lily couldn’t breathe. Thank God her body held on and she was able to live past the PE but with severe lung damage that also caused pneumonia. Through the months Lily kept losing blood oxygen which lead to loss of the oxygen in the brain which lead to 8 mini strokes in the course of a month. From there Lily lost feeling in her left arm and suffered some very minor brain damage. From there was told she would live with this the rest of her life with little to no guidelines or resources on how to help her live the rest of her life. (This timeline is a year long) Lily continued to try and live a normal life. She went to school for EMT she worked at the hospital and was still having these episodes and doctors couldn’t figure out why. Then they found she had a blood staph infection which was likely caused by a line being put in that was not sanitized. She was put onto antibiotics which weakened her immune system more and lead to more issues. So instead of trying to figure out why Denver hospital sent her home with an oxygen tank and TPN and said good luck.
In July of this year Lily complained of thunder clapping headaches. My sister rushed her to the hospital where the found she has been having multiple mini strokes since her cardiac episodes last year. Which would make since due to the lack of oxygen and blood clots in her body since the multiple cardiac arrests. Too many to count on two hands. In August, they let her go home because they finally found out about the mini strokes and sent her open with another oxygen tank. She was doing okay for about a week or so and on September 9th, 2024, Lily went to the restroom at work and woke up in the ICU intubated. She was awake on and off a ventilator. While a nurse was talking to her that night she quit breathing. A few days go by and she’s doing okay, awake, but they still aren’t able to provide her any answers other than telling her she needs to try to make it to Mayo in a different state. Yesterday morning (September 20th, 2024) she got up to use the restroom in her hospital room and had an Anoxic brain injury. This is where no oxygen is going to the brain. They found her over an hour later and had to break the bathroom door down to get to her. As of today, they are keeping her alive so we can say goodbye but come Monday morning, she will no longer be with us.
As you can imagine, there are hospital bills that need to be paid, funeral costs, and so much more from having to go through this fight for two years. Anything helps and we just ask is you can’t donate to pray for our family during this time. Much love.
Forever and a day Lily May.
