Gala Fundraiser for IACAN: Empower South Asian Patients
Tax deductible
A diagnosis of blood cancer is life-altering, and one of the only opportunities for survival is through a blood marrow transplant. However, South Asians are underrepresented on donor registries, making it difficult for South Asian cancer patients to find donors. According to DKMS, South Asians make up only about 3% of the national stem cell and bone marrow registry. However, patients are more likely to find a match from within their own ethnic group because tissue types are inherited. According to the Indian American Cancer Network (IACAN), there is a 95% likelihood that a South Asian will match another South Asian.
Enhancing representation on bone marrow registries is also crucial to ensure that all patients, regardless of their ethnic background, have equitable access to critical medical treatments. This is the mission behind this donation campaign. Indian American Cancer Network has a bone marrow registry program, connects patients with physicians, provides a caregiver and survivor network, and has several community education programs. All of these initiatives provide significant support for cancer patients in the South Asian community.
100% of your contribution to this campaign will be sent directly to IACAN to support their incredible work. Thank you for donating and supporting this important cause!
