Donate to Improve Mary Johnson's Living Conditions

Hi, my name is Bonnie Goff and I would love to raise funds for my dear friend Mary Johnson. Mary was a student of mine many years ago. I taught her in 6th grade. She was a problem child and was so often in trouble I made deals with her trying to get her to behave. Her home situation was not good at all. When Mary was in 8th grade, she got pregnant and had a son named Quay. Years later, when Quay was in 6th grade, I taught him and reconnected with Mary. I asked her if Quay could help me from time to time. I loved gardening and taught him as much as I could. He is now 32 and still helps me. Through Quay, I have stayed in touch with Mary. She's had a hard time of it, raising a daughter and two sons, and now is taking care of her grandson while her daughter is incarcerated. Mary has worked hard for years as a lunchroom lady at our high school and just recently has begun working at the local grocery store.

A few years ago, she found out she had several brain tumors. After going through radiation, all but one disappeared. However, 6 have appeared recently and she will begin radiation again this week. I found out recently from her son that she had a leak under her kitchen sink that apparently had been going on for some time. So I sent a plumber over and he fixed the leak. However, the water had been leaking for so long that she has damage and mildew to the back wall and side wall in her kitchen as well as the cabinets. In walking around, I found many issues with her house that desperately need attention. Doors that don't work, one missing door, painting and holes that need patching, a ceiling that needs fixing, floor in the kitchen that needs replacing, stove door doesn't close. The whole interior truly needs painting and floors replaced. I know it would cost more than I've asked for, but with the help of my children, their spouses, and friends, I'm hoping a lot of the labor can be done by us and the GoFundMe will pay for materials. Mary is such a hard worker who has had a lot on her plate her whole life. She has a strong faith that she will get better and so do I. In the meantime, it would be wonderful to make her home more comfortable for her.
