I understand that this is a long shot, but I have exhausted all other resources. I have reached out to family, but they are all recovering from the hurricanes down in Florida and are unable to help. I cannot take out a loan because my son’s father has dropped my credit 236 points in the last two years.

My name is Brittany Grooms, and I am a single mother of two amazing kids. I provide for them on my own, and my children never truly go without; a mom always finds a way.

Recently, I have been living paycheck to paycheck, having to resort to visiting food banks and acquiring clothing vouchers for my children. Even then, we were still okay. Our bills are paid. I filed for child support for my son because even though I’ve been able to make it work this long without it, my finances are stretched thin, which leaves absolutely no room for error.

My son’s father filed for divorce, and his family helped him get a lawyer soon after. I have been advised by multiple lawyers, a judge, and a guardian ad litem that I need an aggressive lawyer to fight him because he wants partial custody to avoid paying child support. And if I’m unable to proceed with a lawyer, I will have no chance of protecting my son.

A week before Father’s Day this year, my children were escorted out of his house by the chief of police in Sardinia. My children hadn’t eaten in 14 hours. They have been safe with me ever since. My son's father is trying to take him back to a place where he does not want to be, where he was verbally and mentally abused by the adults living there. My son does not want to go back.

I am reaching out regardless of how desperate this may come across.

I know that I cannot obtain a lawyer and have a fighting chance without your help. I’m just a mom who loves her kids and will fight tooth and nail to protect them. I know right now it’s hard for everyone. I am grateful for any help at all. God always protects his children. Thank you for looking.
