First, thank you for even coming to this page and wanting to read about my families story. Some of you might know about my husband and his journey, some of you may know a little or you may be reading our story for the first time. When my husband and I first met I knew nothing about his background on where he grew up or anything. I knew he was my forever partner from the beginning and a month into us knowing each other he told me he was not a citizen but I really didn’t think too much into that news. Then once we were engaged which was only 2 months later he told me he was a DACA Recipient. I had no idea what that was so I had to be educated on what that meant. If you like me and don’t know what DACA is, it stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. It is a program that the Obama administration created to protect children who are immigrants who were brought to the U.S as a child. Every year to year and a half we have to reapply for a new DACA renewal so he can work, have a sense of protection, drive, etc. He is on his 4th renewal and was able to apply for advance parole to go back to Mexico and come back to the U.S. in what our country calls legal entry. He was approved to go to Mexico for dental work because you have to have reasoning behind applying. He went to Mexico in October and officially got his legal entry which was huge! Even with his legal entry he is still a DACA recipient and now has to take the next steps to apply for change in status from DACA recipient to permanent resident. Obviously we thought we would have time for this process and save the money but due to the current political change we will have in January we are having to work a lot faster. His current DACA expires next November and unfortunately the plan for next year under the new president is to totally get rid of DACA and any support for the program which he has removed before. Which means we have to apply for change in status as soon as possible so he can get approved before his DACA expires. Changing his status and the steps we have to take prior to making sure we get approved is not cheap so we are asking for help from anyone who is willing to help.
