A gentle spirit is shining through: Kelce’s second chance needs your support.
On September 6, Gold Ribbon Rescue accepted a rescue-to-rescue transfer from Laredo for 24-095 Kelce and her two four-month-old puppies 24-096 Elway and 24-097 Brees. The previous owner could no longer afford to feed Kelce and her pups, such that Kelce was very skinny—estimated to be 10-12 lbs. underweight at an astonishing 40 lbs.
Upon examination by our dedicated GRR vet, the extent of Kelce’s suffering became clear. She was not only battling malnutrition but also contending with other serious health issues: heartworms, anaplasmosis, and hookworms, a mass on her nose, and another on her eyelid. Kelce was also not spayed. Even more heartbreaking was her emotional condition—being very shy and withdrawn—her spirit seemed diminished. She required assistance to get in the car, and she could only muster being fed by hand. The limp in her back legs, especially in the rear right leg, spoke volumes about the pain she had endured.
Kelce’s story took a heartwarming turn when she moved to her foster home. Surrounded by compassionate people who showered, and who are still showering her with love and care, Kelce has begun to rediscover the joys of doggy-hood—good food, medical attention, and a friendly kitty. Life has become sweeter now, as she learns to trust again.
Kelce is improving and was strong enough for spay surgery and to have the masses removed. The x-ray of her legs revealed an obvious right femur fracture; however, it is badly displaced and had likely happened some time ago. The femur will require replacement with a plate and a rod. Heartworm treatment has been postponed until the femur heals.
This GoFundMe is for $4,000—to cover the cost of Kelce’s femur surgery and rehabilitation scheduled for October 21st.
Gold Ribbon is unwavering in our commitment to the health and well-being of Kelce. We are absolutely dedicated to her rehabilitation. But we can’t do it alone. Every donation helps and will go directly towards Kelce’s care. We appreciate your support.
