Light Up The Broadway Malls This Winter

Winter is coming! And with it comes the Broadway Mall Association’s annual Winter Lighting program on Broadway. BMA maintains 83 malls from 70th Street to 168th Street, passing all the way through Washington Heights down to the Upper West Side. BMA works with dozens of civic groups, businesses and institutions to engage with and benefit from these most urban of urban parks. BMA's mission is to provide a public benefit through the social, economic and environmental health of communities neighboring the Broadway malls. Each of the malls stores carbon, reduces the heat island effect, and captures stormwater - all while providing respite and beauty for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers.

This year, in recognition of BMA’s most ambitious restoration of the malls, we are naming the 2024 Winter Lights, “Light Up The Great Green Way.” The Great Green Way is an ecological restoration of the malls with native trees, shrubs and grasses. Four malls – at 164th, 150th, 96th and 83rd streets – have already been transformed. Next year, we will begin more mall restorations thanks to the generous support of a private donor, New York State, and our local elected officials.

A donation from you in 2024 will go a long way towards our goal of installing beautiful lights on as many malls as possible from Thanksgiving through the end of February. An invoice is enclosed for your convenience.
