Memorial For MABENTIE JABBIE On behalf of Agriatu Koroma
Donation protected
It is with heavy hearts and unimaginable pain that we share the tragic loss of our daughter, sister, niece, and friend, Mabentie Jabbie, who at just 19 years old, lost her battle with depression via suicide on April 8th, 2025.
Mabentie graduated high school in 2024 from Frank Ballou High School in Washington, D.C. She lived with her biological father during her junior and senior year of high school. Mabentie was born in Banjul, Gambia. At the tender age of two, she immigrated to the United States with her mother. Mabentie was raised in Alexandria, Virginia, where she was the oldest to her two younger siblings on her mother’s side. She was currently attending her freshman year at Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana where she declared a major in Biomedical Engineering.
A brief “about me” message written by Mabentie Jabbie taken from her LinkedIn account so that we may get more background on her accomplishments:
“Hello, I'm an 18-year-old recent graduate from Ballou HS. I was born in Banjul, Gambia grew up in Alexandria, Virginia. I've been working with Urban Alliance since '22, which I had the opportunity to work with SOME as a Digital Navigator. I am in the midst of training to become a CNA. My career goal is to become a General Surgeon. I've cultivated an overall of more than 100 hours in community service for Martha's Table.”
While attending Xavier University, Mabentie had dreams and aspirations of becoming a renowned surgeon. However, those dreams were short lived as she battled with persistent depression and suicidal thoughts stemming from the unbearable pain of sexual trauma.
Mabentie saddened our hearts with her last words by giving us a glimpse of what she was experiencing mentally, physically, and emotionally. She shared via her last message sent to her mother that she was suffering in silence and grieving the emotional, physical, and psychological pain of rape she endured at the age of 17 at the hands of her biological father, Foday Jabbie.
Our family and friends are shattered by this great loss. As we try to navigate this sorrowful and difficult time in a shocking untimely demise, Mabentie and our family need your help! She may not have had the opportunity to fulfill her dreams of becoming a General Surgeon, but she now needs our help to get back home to her family, so that they can properly lay her to rest.
We are asking for your financial support towards the transport of the body from New Orleans to Virginia, funeral expenses, and to honor Mabentie’s memory in a way that brings awareness to mental health and the silent battles she and other victims of sexual trauma have endured.
No amount is too little and every donation is deeply appreciated. If you’re unable to give, we ask that you kindly share this page and keep our family in your thoughts and prayers.
May God bless you as you give unto our family. Thank you for helping us give Mabentie the peaceful and befitting farewell she deserves.
