Appeal for Financial support to Mr Madhukar Magar, a Bhutanese Political Prisoner released and deported after 30 years and four months of rigorous imprisonment in Bhutan.
Dear Justice Loving friends and well-wishers,
On 9 August 2023, one of the 38 globally known Bhutanese Political Prisoners, Mr Madhukar Magar, was released after 30 years and four months of rigorous prison sentence at Chemgang Central Prison in Thimphu Bhutan. He wanted to remain inside Bhutan for at least 3-to four days to meet his friends and relatives. Still, his request was outrightly rejected by Bhutan Police, and he was inhumanly dumped into Jaigoan, India, leaving him alone in a nervous position in a crowded town.
Mr Magar, after a lot of struggle, reached the Indo-Nepal town of Panitanki on 11 August 2023 to head towards the Beldangi refugee camp. Still, he was denied entry into Nepal due to insufficient documents to prove his identity. Fortunately, after hearing about his release, his Beldangi-based friend, a former political prisoner, Mr Dil Kumar Rai, and a few others from Beldangi came to Panitanki and helped him enter Nepal after showing documents from the camp. He finally reached the Beldangi refugee camp on 11 August 2023, but he found that his wife, parents and children had all gone to the USA for resettlement. Fortunately, he found his brother's family and started taking emergency shelter with them.
After a lot of struggle, he was offered a deserted old hut, but he had no money to buy materials to rebuild/repair it and other necessities. Moreover, due to 30-plus years of rigorous physical and mental torture in Bhutan's prison, Mr. Magar does not feel healthy and wants a thorough health checkup, but he does not have the financial means to do all that.
Therefore, considering his miserable position, our moral responsibility is to support him in whatever way we can to pull him out of this odd situation. Our friends in Beldangi are also doing their best to help him in whatever way they can from their position.
Thus, we appeal to all our friends, well-wishers and justice-loving people to contribute whatever amount you can and show your love and affection towards our unfortunate brother who suffered more than three decades for our cause. Though we cannot compensate for his sufferings and precious years, we can at least show our love, respect and appreciation for his sacrifice by contributing our little financial support to help him start his new life in the Bhutanese refugee camp Beldangi, Nepal.
We are looking forward to everyone's generous support.
With Kind Regards,
