Update below.
My mother, Nancy Alvarez, recently had a ruptured brain aneurysm Friday evening and had to be rushed to the emergency room having had a hemorrhagic stroke (internal bleeding in the brain). While doctors at Inova Fairfax Hospital thankfully stabilized and saved her life, my mother will still have to undergo numerous surgeries, extending her time at the hospital.
According to the doctors, they discovered another brain aneurysm. So they are keeping my mother at the hospital for roughly 2 weeks in order to monitor her and conduct another surgery. This also includes monitoring her blood pressure as this can cause another rupture and second stroke.
As of now; we do not know the extent of her brain trauma, so even if she were to be discharged from the hospital after 2 or so weeks, she will very likely have to go through rehabilitation.
As you can assume, this has been a very scary and stressful moment for us. I live far away from my family at a different state, so hearing the news has been very stressful. My brother currently lives with our mom and thankfully provides updates to me. My young sister knows very little about what happened to our mom but misses her greatly.
Additional problems arose because of this incident. My mom was the main source of income for the family. Her husband’s job is seasonal and he does not speak English. In addition, he is using his time to visit my mother, and may potentially need time to take my sister to and from her elementary school. My brother can barely assist as he is currently studying at a university. Sadly, I cannot stay too long at Virginia as I work and live at Nebraska and was only given a limited time off to visit and assist as much as I can.
That being said, all I am asking is for any amount of donation to assist my family, especially my siblings who have to live on their own with their father while waiting for our mother to return home and fully rehabilitate back into her and her family’s life.
Donating can help cover:
- Potential medical costs that insurance may not cover.
- Bills and home rent while my mother is still away.
- Food and groceries for my siblings
- Transportation cost. This includes gas because the time it takes to travel from home to the hospital is about 20-30 minutes. This also includes Uber as my brother tends to use it to visit our mom, and they only have one car.
- A babysitter for my young sister as she is only 9 and cannot be left alone when the father and brother is away.
Any amount helps!

Update: We reached our initial goal! Thank you everyone for the support, we truly appreciate it. For an update for any reader, my mom is still in the hospital but has been steadily recovering. She has already gone through her second surgery and we are waiting to see what will be next for her. Until then, thank you once again
