Donate to Pat Stevenson's Student Adventures

My name is Pat Stevenson. I am a kindergarten teacher in West Philadelphia. I have been teaching at my school for 18 years. The students in my school community do not have many opportunities to travel outside of the neighborhood. My fellow teachers and I usually take our students on several field trips each year. We combine Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade classes in order to save money on transportation.

This year, however, our school lost the funding we used to pay for buses. This was critical funding because the trips themselves are often expensive. It is understandable as so many businesses continue to make up for money lost during quarantine. But the high cost of field trips combined with the fees for transportation create a financial hardship for our school families. The result is that we have not gone on as many trips this year.

We are planning to go to the Academy of Natural Sciences to dig for fossils and see dinosaur bones in person. In March, we would also like to visit the Franklin Institute Science Museum. The giant heart is always a favorite activity there. I remember climbing through it when I was a child.

I am asking for donations to pay for the transportation for these two trips. Your generous donation, no matter the size, will have a big impact on our budget. We are hoping to lower the cost of these trips so that more children can participate in these fun activities.
