My name is Michael Regan, and I am a colleague and friend of Pedro Huerta.
Pedro was struck by a car while legally walking in a crosswalk at 11:55 am on Friday, March 7, 2025, at the intersection of Forest and Crystal Avenues. He was on his way to work at O'Neill's Restaurant in Staten Island, where he has been employed as a chef for over 10 years. His injuries consisted of multiple rib and back fractures, as well as internal bleeding. He was taken via ambulance to Richmond University Hospital. Tragically, while in the hospital, he caught the flu, which turned into pneumonia, and also developed a blood infection and became septic. As a result, his organs began to fail, and he is now fighting for his life.
Pedro is a married father of three and a devout Catholic. During COVID, he participated in O'Neill's Veteran assistance program by preparing and delivering meals to homebound veterans and has participated in all of O'Neill's charitable endeavors. The driver of the car that struck him was not properly insured, and his family is facing mounting medical bills.
Pedro has worked in the restaurant industry since he was 15 years old, starting as a busboy and working his way into the kitchen, where he became a fantastic chef. He is married to his wife, Carolina, and is a father to two daughters, Valery and Nataly, and a son, Pedro Jr. He is a fantastic member of our restaurant community here in Staten Island, and his family needs help during this difficult time.
We are fundraising to help cover Pedro's mounting medical bills and support his family during this challenging period.
Pedro Huerta, a beloved chef and community member, needs our support now more than ever.
