My husband and I were driving to a job interview on October 18th when a warning light came up on the dash of our 2018 Ford Escape. The warning light in particular said, "Warning! Transmission Fault Service Now." Whenever our car shifts gears, whether automatic or through the shifter, it jolts. We had it towed to our local mechanic, where they ran diagnostics on October 21st. The transmission fluid was dark, had a burnt smell to it, and had metal fragments in it. Ultimately, this revealed we need to replace our entire transmission due to friction in the system and it not engaging properly. Other findings included a coolant leak, an oil leak, and that our battery life may be compromised. They have quoted us at $7,600 just to replace the transmission, not including anything else that needs to be repaired.
My husband Jon already works two jobs, one full-time and one part-time. I am still working to find a job and have been looking for months. We are barely scraping by as it is with the cost of my medications for diabetes, housing costs, and debt.
Please, if you have the means, donate to help us afford the repairs needed.
Anything above the $7,600 will be used to repair what we can to salvage this vehicle.
