My name is Giang Nguyen. I’m a volunteer with 10 Lives Rescue and a cat rescuer based in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Rorschach (aka Smudge) is a beloved community cat who has been living in the parking lot next to my building the past few years. He’s a cherished member of the neighborhood, with several people occasionally feeding him and a dedicated feeder ensuring he gets meals twice a day. In 2023, he was TNR'ed (trap neuter return). This is when we discovered he is FIV+ and had endured several injuries from living outdoors. Thankfully, these injuries were healing, and he was healthy enough to be released back into his familiar territory.

A few months ago, we noticed that Rorschach began squinting, and over time, his eyes couldn’t open as wide as before. Concerned for his well-being, I partnered with another rescuer to take him to the vet, where he was diagnosed with entropion—a painful condition where the eyelids fold inward, causing discomfort and irritation.

The good news is that we were able to secure a double eye entropion surgery for Rorschach at the Brooklyn Cat Cafe on January 3rd. Rorschach is now recovering with me, and he’s doing wonderfully! He’s eating well (he’s a big fan of Churu!) and is on the path to healing. We’re also taking this time to assess whether he might be friendly enough to transition to an indoor life or if he truly belongs outdoors where he’s lived his whole life.

On January 14th, Rorschach will return to the Cat Café to have his sutures removed. His recovery has been made possible thanks to the amazing support of 10 Lives Rescue, who have agreed to help cover his medical expenses. This fundraiser is dedicated to covering those costs and ensuring Rorschach gets the care he needs to live a comfortable, pain-free life.
