Saving Sage

Donation protected
On Monday, March 10, Hunter had to do one of the most unimaginable things a mother has ever done – resuscitate her 3-year-old son, Sage. Sage, a precocious preschooler in the adventurous stage of life, had fallen into his grandmother’s pool and drowned. Hunter was able to get Sage’s heart beating again, but severe damage was already done.

Sage is a remarkable little boy, loved by his many aunts and uncles, his teachers and friends, and all those who come into contact with him. He has an easy smile, quick to hug, but also quick to express his opinion. He loves to play, whether it’s on a trampoline, on a slide, or with his toy dinosaurs or cars. He loves his chickens. He loves to praise Jesus.

These days following his accident have been torturous for our family. In the beginning, we had some hope because the initial tests showed minimal brain swelling; eventually, we were told there was no brain activity and Sage had a 0% chance of recovery.

But we didn’t give up hope. Thousands around the world bombarded heaven, pleading with God to give us back our precious little boy. And slowly, tiny miracle by tiny miracle, we started to see some improvement over the days. His pupils dilated with light. His hands started to move some. He took a few breaths on his own. But we still have issues with blood pressure, lung infections, and limited physical response to stimulation.

Many people have asked how they could help. Prayer is our first response. Sage’s full recovery is everyone’s priority, and it can only happen through a miracle. The next immediate need was meals for the large family and many visitors who continuously hold an anxious vigil in the waiting area outside the Pediatric ICU. Sage’s church family has provided meals for the last several days. But eventually, the worry about how to pay for everything will come to mind. ICU is expensive, as you can imagine. Future medical needs will cost money. Sage’s parents need to focus on his recovery, not finances.

If you feel led to help support Sage and his family, please donate what you can. We trust God will cover all our needs, both medical and financial. You may be part of the way He does that.
