Donate to Save Chewie's Mobility and Joy

Hello, I'm Nick, and this is for my little buddy Chewie. He is a Tri-Color Pembroke Welsh Corgi and will be 5 years old in December. He is in need of back surgery as soon as possible.

On the evening of Thursday the 10th, Chewie ran up his stairs onto the bed and slipped. He fell and hit the side of the wooden stairs and fell around 1.5'. He was whining in pain, panting, and shaking. I took him to the Animal Emergency Center of the Quad Cities, and that night he was looking alright. He could still use his hind legs and stand on them for short periods, but the X-rays revealed calcification of the disks on L2/3, L3/4, L4/5, and it's looking like he has Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). We were hoping with rest for a few weeks he would recover. Over the weekend, he lost use of his back legs, and on Sunday night or Monday morning, he lost control of his bladder. I took him to my normal vet, Risius, and they examined him. He has no proprioception in his hind legs. He still feels superficial pain and deep pain on the right side, but only deep pain on the left. With this information, I was advised that if possible, he should receive surgery as soon as possible.

I don't really have any savings, my credit sucks, and the credit cards I do have do not have any available credit at the moment. I did sign up for Care Credit and was approved for $2500 that night at the emergency vet. That visit was around $400, so I have $2100 left to use towards this.

The most inexpensive place for surgery near here is the Hixson-Lied Small Animal Hospital at the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in Ames, IA. The estimate for the surgery is $6000-$8000. $6000 was due at check-in and I was luckily able to get a loan from a family member for that. After the rest of the surgery is paid for I will be paying them back via the donations and over time any difference.

If we somehow get more donations than needed I will donate the excess to the local animal shelters. I'll split it between the Humane Society of Scott County, King's Harvest Pet Rescue, and some of the ones across the river on the Illinois side of the Quad Cities.

Anything would help.

If giving makes you uncomfortable because I'm a random person you may not know but you would still like to donate, you can call the Hixson-Lied Small Animal Hospital in Ames, IA (GoFundMe removed phone number) and ask to pay on/make a donation towards Chewie on Nick Seemann's account.
