Help CT Get a New Heart: Our Journey So Far
Hi everyone,
Our story is a bit long, but please bear with us as we share the journey that brought us here. My husband, CT, urgently needs a heart transplant or an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) to survive. Right now, his fragile heart is being sustained by a constant milrinone pump and a host of medications.
How We Got Here
CT was first diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2018. Despite the diagnosis, he responded well to medication and led an active, normal life for years. But earlier this year, everything changed.
It started with a persistent cough that wouldn’t go away, which was treated unsuccessfully for pneumonia. Eventually, an echocardiogram revealed a shocking truth: CT’s ejection fraction—a measure of heart function—had dropped to just 10-15%. To put it in perspective, that level is considered incompatible with life.
Within days, CT was admitted to the hospital and outfitted with a life vest (a wearable defibrillator). Despite following all medical advice, he suffered a heart attack at home shortly after. By the grace of God, I was able to get him to the ER in time, but things went from bad to worse.
CT had three strokes and was declining rapidly before being life-flighted to St. Luke’s in Kansas City. There, a team of specialists stabilized him and began the process of evaluating him for a heart transplant.
The Road Ahead
Currently, CT is home, fighting every day to meet the strict criteria for transplant approval. His body has to recover from the strokes and resolve dangerous blood clots before he can undergo surgery. His current heart isn’t expected to sustain him long-term, and every day feels like walking a tightrope.
We’re hopeful that by January, CT will either receive an LVAD or be listed for a heart transplant. In the meantime, the costs of medical care, travel, and daily expenses are mounting.
How You Can Help
We know times are tough for many, and asking for help is never easy. If you’re able, any contribution will go toward:
Medical bills not covered by insurance
Travel expenses to and from the hospital
Everyday needs while CT focuses on healing
If you’re unable to donate, we completely understand and deeply appreciate your prayers and good thoughts.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for supporting us during this difficult journey. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to our family.
