Donate to Save Lumos' Life and Health

Hello, my name is Marlaina. I have started this GoFundMe for my cat, Lumos. He was taken to the Veterinary Emergency Group hospital last night due to being lethargic, not eating, and in a lot of pain every time we touched or moved him. Lumos was diagnosed with urinary obstruction (unable to urinate due to a blockage). His potassium levels are critically high and kidney function low. We received some funding to keep him there for 24 hours, which allowed them to catheterize him and empty his bladder. They are working hard to get his levels back to normal. The doctor called me this morning with an update and told me, unfortunately, 24 hours just isn't going to be enough to filter out his kidneys like they need. He is in a better state and has even tried eating today! But in order to safely send him home, they need to keep him for another 48-72 hours. They asked us to reach out to a program called Face4Pets, which requires us to start this GoFundMe and try everything we can. Of course, we are going to try everything! If anyone knows how ridiculous the cost of pet care is, you'll understand that this is going to take help to get my baby boy better and home to me. Lumos is only 4 years old and so full of life and love. He's such a character and even loves playing with our dog, Kenobi. The hospital has given him a good prognosis as long as we can get funding for the additional nights it will cost to continue filtering out his kidneys and treatment for the potassium levels. We appreciate the time you took to read this and any help if given.

Update: 2/21/25
I just wanted to post an update about my kitty. Lumos was sent home yesterday, his potassium and kidney levels are back to normal and so far he has remained in good condition. The foundation that asked we start the gofundme granted us $3500 that paid for the 2 extra days he needed to stay to make this happen. They also asked that we keep the gofundme open in case there is a re-blockage which is a 50/50 chance. At that point he will need surgery to make his urethra bigger and avoid this issue long term in the future. The vet explained that sometimes cats never get blocked again with proper treatment and unfortunately sometimes they do, it depends on their ph levels in the urine. If however Lumos stays stable we will be donating the funds from the gofundme to the vet clinic in hopes to help someone else that comes in with a pet and can't afford such a bill to save their pets life. I want to thank everyone that has helped out in every way, it truly means so much to us. We will continue to post updates.
