Donate to Save Smitty: A Kitten's Fight for Life

Donation protected
**update: Thank you to everyone for your generosity, encouragement, and support!! We spoke with a few specialists and ruled out a few things. Currently the diagnosis appears to be Primary Hypodipsia secondary to severe brain trauma as a kitten. This means her brain doesn’t tell her to drink when she’s thirsty, when she feels off she just doesn’t drink at all. She fake drinks a lot so she tricked me into thinking she was drinking enough. Currently we are managing with appetite stimulants, fluids under her skin, and syringe feeding water/ food every few hours. It’s possible she might start regulating but also likely this will be a life long thing for us. Although it is a lot of work we are blessed if we can keep her hydrated and her body regulated at home. Any tips to get more fluids in her and continued prayers and healing energy are greatly appreciated! Thank you so much for caring

Almost a year ago, around Mothers Day, I was asked to medically foster an injured kitten that was brought into the emergency veterinary hospital I work at. I hadn’t fostered in a few years due to a hard pregnancy and then having a toddler. At 3.5 years I thought my daughter would enjoy seeing how her mom can save kittens. I’ve raised over 200 in the last 15 years and have always loved it. When I brought “Smitty the kitty” home, my daughter, cats, and I fell in love. She has a very special bond with her now 4.5 year old human sister. She was here to stay despite that not being my initial plan. It was a rocky road getting Smitty healthy after suffering severe head trauma, a fractured jaw, and neurological issues caused from the head trauma such as blindness and random little behavioral differences. It is thought that she was thrown from a car window (she was found clean, fed, but alone on the side of the road with blood from her mouth and nose at 3-4 weeks). Now, our 10.5 month old family member is really sick. Her illness has stumped about 15 top notch veterinarians, and all the wonderfully educated nurses and vet staff. I have incurred over $5k in vet bills for her over the last year, mostly for the last visit that left her hospitalized for a week. She has some sort of endocrine system issue that is likely related to the severe head trauma she endured as a kitten. She still needs an internal medicine consultation and we are fighting with fluids, syringe feeding, water every where, constant reminding her to eat and drink and caring for her and vet visits. This recent issue appeared a week after we lost our 15 year old cat from cancer and my daughter prays daily for Smitty, asking me if she will die too. I’m trying my best to see if we can make her wish come true and keep our kitty for as long as possible. Please help in any way you can, no amount too small. $0.50, sharing, prayers, and well wishes all welcome. We need all we can to help us through this awfully trying time.
