Donate to Secure a Safe Future for Lisa's Family

My name is Lisa. I moved to the United States in 2021 with my then husband and two children (a boy and a girl) aged 5 years and 6 months. We had hoped that our future would change when my husband got an opportunity to do his post-doctoral studies in the US. Unfortunately, this was not to be as we started having problems which led to a case of domestic violence. My kids and I moved to a shelter to escape the violence and lived there for one year.

After moving out of the shelter, we lived with well-wishers. Unfortunately, I also could not get a job because my paperwork was dependent on my husband’s visa and he was not willing to file on our behalf. It has been a difficult few years, and I have struggled and somehow managed to keep my children safe and in school. However, things have become more difficult to sustain as we had to move from where we lived for the children’s safety.

I have recently gotten an opportunity to expedite the filing process for my paperwork with USCIS so that I can get a permit to work. Unfortunately, I am not able to afford the payment for the process. I also need to pay for our food and shelter until I am able to get on my feet.

By profession, I am an early childhood educator and even though I wasn’t able to work because of paperwork, I did some courses to keep my certifications current and I will be able to land a job as soon as I can get my paperwork sorted out.

My children and I are hopeful that you will find it in your heart to donate anything small to help our situation. We hope that this year we will be able to have a place to call home and some food on the table.
