*Long but definitely necessary - it is hard to summarize 64 days but I did my best!*
For those of you who may not know, Chris was involved in a motorcycle accident on September 22nd, 2023, that left him hospitalized for 63 days, with most of his stay being in the ICU.
Chris sustained multiple injuries from the collision including a skull fracture, subdural hematoma, broken right shoulder, broken right clavicle, fractured left tibia, road rash to both lower extremities, and was on mechanical ventilation support and sedation medications for majority of his hospital stay.
His time in the hospital was full of complications and unknowns for many weeks. He started developing a fever that was uncontrollable by medication or other interventions. His stability was not clear to us or to the medical staff for a period of time. There were many instances in which we thought that he might not survive.
Thankfully, changes to his treatment plan were made, and his status improved; ultimately, leading to his discharge on November 24th, 2023. His initial provider even came to speak to Chris before he discharged and was in complete shock that Chris had sustained the injuries that he did, been through the complications that he had been through, and was still able to recover with no cognitive deficits.
Chris has since been adjusting to what life now looks like for him. As you can imagine, much has changed. Initially, a Go Fund Me was being made early on, but we decided to wait until the exact needs were more identifiable.
Our concerns are as follows:
- Funds that will allow Chris to attend Occupational/Physical Therapy appointments for range of motion and strength training for both of his hands and shoulder – Chris does not have medical insurance
- Monthly financial obligations (share of rent/utilities/etc.)
Our goal is to take some pressure off Chris’s shoulders so that he can heal as soon as possible, physically and mentally.
Please consider helping Christopher to achieve some type of normalcy again. If unable to help, we completely understand and ask that you consider sharing his story instead. We all thank you for your time and concern for Christopher! ♥
