Joe Fusco is a person who lives life with passion. Passion for his family, his faith, football and fishing. He’s someone who takes pride in caring for others, regardless of who they are, where they come from, or if they have anything to offer in return. Those close to Joe know that he can be considered “direct” and “honest” - ok, maybe gruff is a better word. But with a heart of absolute gold.

On June 6th, 2022, Joe and his wife Leslie received the devastating news that Joe had been diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer, an incredibly aggressive and dangerous form of cancer. After almost a year of living with and fighting the disease through countless treatments and chemotherapy, our dear Joe is now facing the hardest battle so far.

Joe and Leslie were married nearly 14 years ago and made their home in Zeeland, MI, raising a blended family of his own 2 children, Karissa and Joshua; and 3 stepchildren, Marty, Drew, and Zac. He has also been blessed with 7 grandchildren, two from his daughter and five from his stepchildren. He is extremely proud of and entertained by each of them. His support of and involvement with his family is immeasurable. Joe took great pride in coaching his son Joshua in recreational football as he was growing up. He and his brother, Jonathan, really sought to teach the kids the fundamentals needed for each level of play. Once his son graduated, Joe continued coaching locally at Holland Christian School, not only sharing football knowledge, but mentoring the young men to be the best people they could be.

Sunday’s aren’t only for football though, they’re also for prayer, accountability, and guidance. Joe is a member of Hope Church and has grown in his faith through the Sunday messages presented by Pastor Dave Abberger.

Many weekends, Joe and his brother could be found fishing locally or chasing walleye on the east side of the state. Joe’s infamous line is “one more cast”. Hunting was another passion that Joe shared with his brother and his son. They have all enjoyed many outdoor adventures together.

Unfortunately, over the last month, Joe's health has worsened dramatically. He's been hospitalized for three weeks, has lost a tremendous amount of weight and physical function, and is in incredible amounts of pain. Despite this, he continues to show us how much he loves life.

Many have asked what they can do to help… we know that there is power in prayer, but we also see the tangible financial needs that arise from a diagnosis such as this one. Joe is no longer able to work and does not carry disability insurance. Funds will go directly to paying medical bills, household bills, and eventually, funeral expenses, to honor his life and legacy.

This GoFundMe has been set up by Joe's extended family. We are endlessly appreciative of your generosity, prayers, and support as we continue to pray for just “one more cast”.

Thank you,
The Fusco Family
