Feb 1 Update from Elliott’s Family:
Elliott update:
Not the update we wanted to be giving as I thought this was going to be a good one. Yesterday for the first time since we've been here I heard the words “he's doing better and this is the best he's looked”. I felt like we were on the up and up. Then last night around midnight Elliott had a seizure, they are not sure why and thank goodness our daytime doctor is here. She came in the room as soon as she got here and informed me they would be doing multiple tests today including a spinal tap and imaging to find the cause of the seizure. They also increased his antibiotic to twice a day and started him on another antibiotic. I will update as soon as we learn anything. And as always please keep praying for our sweet little guy to make a full recovery.
I hate that this even has to be done, but sweet little Elliott and his family need your help!
Elliott is just 11 months old and currently battling RSV in the pediatric ICU of Masonic Children's Hospital. Less than 24 hours after showing symptoms of illness last week, Elliott developed significant difficulty breathing. His parents quickly brought him to the Emergency Department for evaluation and he was admitted with oxygen. As his little body continued to struggle and weaken, he continued to need more support. The day after he was admitted, he was transferred to the pediatric ICU and was ultimately intubated earlier this week. Since then they have found he is also battling a second respiratory virus and pneumonia. He has also received a feeding tube, as he is much too sick to eat, as well as fluids, antibiotics, and 1 to 1 care from the incredible nursing staff. While we know Elliott is getting the very best care from fantastic doctors, nurses, and the rest of the team, this has been a nightmare for his family.
As if this weren't enough, Elliott's older brother, Greyson (age 2), was also admitted during this time, as he too could not support his breathing on his own. He has thankfully been discharged home now to continue recovering. Biggest brother Louis (age 5) is really, really missing his baby brother and having his family together at home. His heartbreak has been so tough for his family. On top of all of this, Will and Rebecca are trying to sell their home and Will just started a new job this month. That alone would be enough stress for the rest of us, but Will and Rebecca have continued to put others before themselves day in and day out despite all of it - until now. Now it is time for us to help them. Let's help alleviate the financial struggles and let Will & Rebecca focus on their little trooper and the rest of their beautiful family.
Your donation today will go to help pay the anticipated medical bills (estimated to currently be at $10,000 after insurance) and help with the costs of food, transportation, medicines, and all of the other little pieces that go into caring for a sick child. Even $10 helps in times like these. Please consider contributing to help support the Schultz family.
