THIS IS A SURPRISE!!!
Howdy,
I am a recent Animal Science Graduate, Class of 2023 A-WHOOP!
Through my years at A&M, I have learned what makes a great Aggie. While being an Aggie means many things, the foundation of our morale is to treat everyone like family, and spread our 6 core values (respect, excellence, leadership, loyalty, integrity, and selfless service) throughout our lives.
This fundraiser was created because our community has the privilege of knowing someone who has spent so much of their life devoted to sharing their Aggie values and changing people's lives through their everyday actions.
This individual is Dr. Rohn Hendricks (Class of ‘76). He completed his Undergraduate degree (‘77), Graduate Degree (‘82), and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M (‘91). He was a devoted member of the Corp of Cadets, and he worked full time to pay for his schooling and housing. When I received my ring, I asked him about his. He said when it was time to buy his ring, he was a broke vet student and couldn’t afford it, so he never got one. This is when I knew that our community could come together to give this Old Ag his long over-due ring!
Here are just a few of the Aggie moments Dr. Hendricks has shown-
He goes above and beyond in his equine practice. He will come out late at night or early in the morning to tend to a sick or injured animal. Every time he tends to an animal, he takes the time to make a connection with them and keep them comfortable. Dr. Hendricks, also, establishes relationships with his clients. He learns their interests and will recall even the smallest detail when he sees them again, no matter how long it has been.
He could easily do his job and then leave, but he takes the time to connect and create that relationship.
I have heard so many inspiring stories from people in the community about Dr. Hendricks. He is well loved by many people, and by their equine, as well.
He shares his love for A&M… all the time!! He is always sharing fun and loving memories that he made at A&M. He talks about his professors that helped him, the fun times at The Chicken, and the amazing game days. His love for A&M is contagious and makes others love the school as well!
Dr. Hendricks has been working in the Equine Veterinary Field since 1999. His goal when he retires is to move back to College Station. He loves A&M so much that he wants to spend his retirement there. When I asked him why he wanted to move there, he said “I want to spend the rest of my life being front row to the Aggie experience.”
With all this being said, I think that it would be amazing if the community came together and bought Dr. Hendricks his Aggie ring. When that day comes that he does retire, he will have a gift from all of us to remind him how much we appreciate him and how special he is.
I would like for this to be a surprise for him, so please keep this a secret.
