Donate to survivors to make double the difference
Tax deductible
This holiday season, your donation can go twice as far in supporting survivors – donate before the end of the year and every dollar you give will be matched by a single donor up to our goal of $300k. Every dollar raised will go directly to survivors, and your donation is 100% tax deductible.
Surviving abuse is incredibly expensive and isolating. According to the CDC, it costs female survivors $104k to deal with the consequences of abuse over their lifetime. 99% of survivors are subjected to economic abuse as part of the violence they experience – which occurs when a harm-doer controls a survivor’s financial resources. Survivors report having an average of $289 that they alone can access, and only an average of $10 in savings.
FreeFrom has built two programs that directly support the financial wellbeing of survivors: the Safety Fund cash assistance program, and the Savings Matching Program.
The Safety Fund provides survivors with emergency flexible cash grants, which survivors spend mostly on food, household items and household utilities. The Savings Matching Program matches survivors’ monthly savings 1:1 until they build a $500 savings cushion.
Through these programs, we’ve disbursed over $2.1MM in 8,800 in cash grants, and supported over 1,600 survivors in saving over $600k collectively.
Survivors in our programs shared:
“I wanted to share with you how I am continuing after the savings match program. I took my total savings of $500 and opened a Discover It Secured Credit Card as deposit to build up my credit score . After 7 months of good practice, they will review and graduate me to an unsecured card and return my deposit! … I'm not sure if you remember, but when I started the savings match program, I was [so] naive and eager, that I literally thought I could buy a car, LOL. Well, it was a first 'step' in that direction and now it's time to improve my credit score and build towards that original goal.
I can't thank you and the FreeFrom organization enough for coming into my life at such a pivotal time. You have given me a boost in the right direction and I truly feel my life has been impacted because of it. Thank you for all that you do and helping [so] many get Free !!!!!!“
“Survivors need money and they need to be trusted regarding how that money is used,” she said. “You can never know every intricacy of exactly what their abuse entailed - even if you yourself have also experienced abuse. In so many cases, I could get myself through something if someone had just given me some money. In many many cases, I see clients in situations with debt where a few hundred dollars could end their homelessness today.”
“I feel secure again because I have the ability to reach my goal of getting a vehicle again, but I also have something for a dire emergency if I have to flee for my safety again.”
“I feel like I was able to develop a sense of agency and grow in responsibility which allowed me to feel better knowing that if I'm getting short in food money I will be able to tap into those savings in case I need emergency relief.”
