Donate to Sustain the Baby Product Exchange

Donation protected
The Baby Product Exchange helps low-income families defray the cost of living and minimizes environmental impact by keeping gently used items out of the landfill.

The Exchange collects diapers, baby wipes, and gently used baby equipment then redistributes them through a network of 55+ social services and mutual aid organizations in Vermont. There is no cost to recipients or partner organizations, and the effort is entirely volunteer-run.

In its first 18 months, the Exchange kept 1,200 pieces of equipment from the landfill and provided 180,000 diapers to local communities. Volunteers have contributed everything from website development, graphic design, and marketing to a comprehensive database/scheduling tool as well as warehouse and staging space.

The Exchange is expanding to serve a wider geographic area and relies on donations to support these efforts. Your donation will help us secure a permanent space to collect and sort donations, plus cover rising costs associated with distribution (such as truck rental and insurance).

No donation amount is too small! Thank you for helping us support vulnerable Vermont families!

About the organizer:
Hi, I’m Wendy. I’ve always been passionate about reducing waste and being a mindful consumer. In high school, I sorted recyclables at sporting events to keep them out of the landfill. In college, I lobbied for duplex printers to save paper. And, as a Peace Corps volunteer, I wove plastic scraps into ropes to make hammocks. So when my daughter quickly outgrew her baby gear, I wanted to pass it on—but options were limited. Selling was time-consuming and disposal felt wasteful. Donation was ideal, but few Vermont organizations can accept and store bulky baby gear. And regulations often prohibit redistributing used children's equipment. This gap led to the creation of the Exchange: what began in my garage with a few social media posts and a Google Sheets inventory quickly took off—within a few weeks, we’d redistributed 80 items and even made the evening news, twice!
