Kristin A. Babik Memorial Scholarship

On November 30, 2024, we lost a beautiful soul, Kristin Amanda Babik. She experienced a cardiac event brought on by the long-term effects of trauma and related health complications. Kristin was a loving daughter, sister, and friend whose light shone even through unimaginable hardship. She was tragically shot during Jason Aldean’s performance at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival. As a survivor of the 2017 Las Vegas shooting, she endured severe injuries and lifelong emotional challenges but remained steadfast in her faith and her desire to help others. She often said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” and she truly lived by those words.

Despite her new fear of public spaces, Kristin graduated with a law degree from the University of Florida , earned a Master of Health Law from the University of Washington, and passed the California Bar. Kristin earned her undergraduate degree in both psychology and criminology from the University of Florida, driven by a curiosity to understand how the human mind works and what influences criminal behavior. Though trauma eventually made practicing law difficult, Kristin found new ways to serve others, including through AmeriCorps, where she helped build homes for those in need. She was musically gifted, witty, and kind, touching countless lives with her strength and compassion.

Kristin believed deeply in bringing good out of tragedy. While in recovery after the shooting she said, “That day in 2017 was one of the best and worst days of my life. Today—and all other days—I remember and think of those who left us and those who survived. I think of those who fought to save the ones they couldn’t and worked hard to save the ones they could. I dream of a day when things like this don’t happen and everyone feels—and is—safe. Dark times will hit us all at one point. I hope all of you know that you are good enough, worthy of love and happiness, and can get through the dark times—because the light always prevails.”

With your support to reach our goal, we are planning to partner with a local community foundation, to create a memorial fund that will honor Kristin. This fund will provide a yearly undergrad scholarship for criminology/psychology — ensuring her legacy lives on year after year, touching lives in perpetuity. Your donation, no matter the size, helps us honor her memory.

Thank you for your generosity, compassion, and for keeping Kristin’s spirit alive.
