Donate to the Raul B. Perdomo Scholarship Fund

As the 2023 president of the University of Michigan Club of Tampa Bay, Raul led the club in raising $10,000 toward its $50,000 goal (the minimum required) to establish an endowed scholarship fund at the University of Michigan.

Sadly, Raul received a metastatic cancer diagnosis in mid-December. Due to the advanced stage and rapid spread, he passed away on January 18, 2024. The club named the Raul B. Perdomo Scholarship Fund in memory of Raul to honor his life-long devotion to the University of Michigan Athletic Department, his passion for Michigan sports, and his appreciation for the value of higher education to our society.

A Michigan Man
Raul was a Michigan Man to his core. He worked in Operations and Events at the University of Michigan Athletic Department for 40 years. During that time, he:
  • was hand-picked by Bo Schembechler to chauffeur Bo from his car to his tower suite at football games.
  • rose from an entry-level usher in Section 21 in 1979 to one of the leaders of game operations for Michigan sports teams when he retired in 2019.
  • helped create a customer service training program for thousands of ushers and ticket takers and edited a newsletter for all of their event team members on football Saturdays.
  • instituted a “First Game Certificate” for youngsters visiting Michigan Stadium.
  • was the go-to man for service recovery whenever there was an upset ticket holder because he could turn the incident into a positive experience.

A Legacy of Leadership & Community Service
Even after his retirement, Raul remained involved in the University of Michigan by serving as Big 10 Rep, Vice-president and President of the U-M Club of Tampa Bay from 2020 until his death. As the President and Secretary, he and his wife, Maureen, reinvigorated the Tampa Bay Club. And, as a result of their efforts, received a trifecta of national awards in 2023 from the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan for Most Improved Club, Best Education and Cultural Enrichment Programming, and he was named Volunteer of the Year.

Despite his diagnosis, Raul helped host 100s of alumni and fans at the watch party for the 2024 Rose Bowl at Ferg’s Sports Bar & Grill in St. Petersburg, FL, and he even wanted to go to Houston with his oldest son for the National Championship football game and sing the fight song in a stadium one last time!

Help Fulfill Raul’s Final Wish
Raul will no longer be able to lead the U-M Club of Tampa Bay but he told the board of directors how important it was to him that the club continue to be successful. The board wishes to honor Raul’s legacy by naming this endowed scholarship after him. The earned interest from the Raul B. Perdomo Scholarship will be awarded to scholars while the principal investment continues into perpetuity.

Please consider supporting this effort. The U-M Club of Tampa Bay has already raised the first $10,000, so $40,000 to go to reach the $50,000 minimum for the endowment. With your donation it will be possible to memorialize Raul Perdomo, and, at the same time, to open many doors for future Wolverines.

By sharing this you will help fulfill Raul's final wish. Go Blue!
