Donation protected
These donations will go directly to the UIH RN Strike Hardship Fund that will be used for covering financial hardship experienced by nurses. These donations are not tax deductible. No members of the UI-Health management team or any other employer with employees represented by the Illinois Nurses Association may contribute to this fund.
UI Health is one of Chicago’s most essential safety net hospitals. Its nurses have sacrificed their health and their family time to save lives, prevent COVID spread and treat Chicago’s most vulnerable patient community over the past few years. Over that same time they have experienced understaffing, workplace violence and a loss in purchasing power thanks to the record inflation of the past few years.
UIH RNs went on a weeklong strike after their contract expired in August and saw small amounts of movement. Unfortunately the union and management continue to be far apart on issues like safety for nurses and patients, staffing ratios that allow for high quality care conditions and wages that compete with nearby hospitals. UIH leaders have put forward proposals to combine current tracks into larger and less specialized pools that would lead to nurses being sent to work in areas where they may not feel safe.
Nurses voted 88% to authorize their bargaining team to call an indefinite strike late last month and a strike date has now been set for Wednesday, November 13th.
Please help these nurses stay out one day longer than the boss by donating to the UIH Union Nurse Strike Fund! All funds will go toward supporting the basic needs of nurses on strike.
