Donate Water Barrels for WNC Hurricane Relief

Hello, my name is Doug Stevens and I am working to help the many communities in Western North Carolina that have been affected by Hurricane Helena. The majority of the region is without water and it could be several weeks to months before water is restored and there is still no guarantee that when water is restored it will be usable for drinking/cooking.

In addition there are multiple retirement homes and low income apartments that have no water and are no way to flush human waste. Many that do not have the ability to fill water containers for flushing toilets have resorted to using trash cans or over flowing their current toilets.

I have been working with a barrel manufacture and have secured delivery of 55 gallon water barrels that have standard hose connections. The goal is to provide the water containers free to those who do not have the means to purchase.

We have secured free freight shipping and a discounted price from the manufacture. We have multiple volunteers ready to fill and distribute water containers to the entire region to anyone in need. The total cost is around $8,000 for delivery to WNC. I am working on net 30 terms with the manufacture to allow the funds to be generated over the month with immediate distribution the middle of next week (10/16).

100% of the funds generated will go directly to the purchase of the water containers and complete transparency will be available to any donations. This is a grassroots operation and I do not have the funds or means to do this alone. The WNC region is so special to so many and not just the residents that have been affected by the devastation of Hurricane Helena.

We are asking any and everyone to help donate if possible. If you are a business or would like recognition for your donation we are working with several media outlets to get this story out and full credit will be given. To those who wish to remain anonymous, complete anonymity will be given.

** 10/30/25 Delivery Update**

Today we received an order of barrels and they are being unloaded and staged for distribution.

We currently have about half load reserved for Chimney Rock / Lake Lure, Madison Co, Yancey Co, and Mitchell Co.

Several containers are being staged for distribution with local churches that have community members in need.
