Empower Women in Indonesia with Reusable Pads

Background

Perfect Fit is a menstrual health start-up based in Bali, Indonesia who believes that everyone deserves access to safe, comfortable and affordable menstrual products and education. Perfect Fit began as a social project at Kopernik in East Nusa Tenggara Province in 2018 and is now paving the way to be a leading company for providing the best and the most sustainable period solutions. Perfect Fit’s mission is breaking menstrual taboos, empowering women to be the best version of themselves, and protecting our environment from climate change.

Our target for the crowdfunding is to help 100 women give access to pads and education in Mangarai Barat, the western region of the island Flores. One kit of pads costs 18,50 euro, which roughly translates to 350 IDR. This means that we will aim to raise 2000 euro with crowdfunding. But of course, any amount will help. A kit includes 4 reusable pads, made by local women in Labuan Bajo and an education session during the distribution on menstrual health and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).

Problem

Menstruation and sexual health are invisible topics in Indonesia. A culture of silence contributes to a lack of knowledge on menstrual hygiene management (MHM) and Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR). In rural areas, many women do not have options for sustainable menstrual products other than single-use pads, which is compounded by a lack of education about menstrual health, which can lead to shame, stigma, and misconceptions about periods. As a result, many women in rural Indonesia are forced to limit themselves to miss school or work during their periods, which can have a detrimental impact on their overall health, education, and economic opportunities.

This problem is further compounded by the fact that many women in rural Indonesia do not have the financial resources to purchase reusable products. As a result, they are often left with no other option but to resort to single-use pads.

Solution

To address this issue, this crowdfunding will provide rural Indonesian women with access to affordable and sustainable menstrual products, along with education about menstrual health. By providing reusable pads, this project can help break the cycle of period poverty and promote sustainable menstrual practices in rural Indonesia.

Kopernik and Perfect Fit undertake the distribution with the support of local partners.
