Donating My Kidney to My HS Friend
Donation protected
So my story starts out with scrolling through Facebook and seeing that one of my HS friends is in need of a kidney. I didn’t hesitate as I hit the message button and said I am willing to get tested to donate.
Some people around me which includes co-workers, friends and family can’t understand how I would just do this. They say, “What if you are a match?”, “What if you really have to go through with surgery?”. I answer – then I will and I want to.
I think of life like this…If one of my children or even me would need a kidney I would HOPE that someone would jump at the chance to help – that’s what life is about, isn’t it? Helping…Giving…Being a friend…
With this upcoming test that is necessary to go through to finish this process of guaranteeing I am a good match to my friend Beverlie is going to incur costs, costs which I do not have a lot to donate towards this.
I will be out of work with no pay. I will have to travel from Chicago to Charleston to get testing done and then after all of that – FINGERS CROSSED that I am a match – then comes the time off from work and recovery time to recover.
